I learned the aspects of a successful Noton when I was in my second year of college. In a Noton each individual shape is supposed to advance off the surface of the canvas equally. That is to say that if you look at an individual shape, it should advance towards you from the canvas, likewise, so should the other shapes in the work of art. Notons are typically done in white, grey, and black.
